2009 ended on a very positive financial note, as the church rallied during the last two months of the year to wipe out the deficit that had accumulated and to end up with a surplus of $10,000. Through the peole of VBC, God has provided for His ministry in a very encouraging way. Interestingly, each year for the past four years, He has provided just enough - not much surplus, nor much of a deficit either - always within $10,000 of breaking even and always in time!

Of course, God may choose at some point not to provide the resources we think we need and, as a result, cause us to redirect our ministry initiatives. Please continue to pray as we strive, as a church and as a leadership team, to be wise and prudent stewards of the resources God eintrusts us with, as we strive to impact the world around us for Christ and His Kingdom.

What is God calling you to in 2010? Whether He’s calling you to give 5%, 10%, 20% or 80%, let’s all give to God with great joy out of our first fruits (before we pay anything else) – as our priority, rather than out of our surplus. One study theorizes that if all American Christians gave the old faithful tithe of 10%, we could fund missionaries in every part of the world, prevent the deaths of 29,000 children younger than the age of five every day worldwide, provide elementary education across the globe, tackle domestic poverty – and still have $150 billion left over annually.

Let’s bring this concept home. If all the families of Village Bible Church gave just 10% of their income in 2010, we’d have an additional $1,000,000 (or more!) to pour into ministry in our community and around the globe. How great would that be?
