Get to Know Someone New

09.01.11

Our Christian life is meant to be lived in community – not in isolation. We've been told that we're great at the smile and handshake... but that it's tough to get plugged in to the church family beyond that. There is an answer to solve this problem.

Our Christian life is meant to be lived in community – not in isolation.

Community doesn’t really happen during the Sunday morning worship service – it happens in an ABF, in a small group, by serving along side of another, and it happens in our homes. Currently, our Sugar Grove campus is made up of 260 families and singles, which represent a total of over 800 people. Many of these people have not had an opportunity to really connect and integrate into our family – some because they are new, but there are also plenty of people who have been here for years who have just not connected.

We've been told that we're great at the smile and handshake... but that it's tough to get plugged in to the church family beyond that.

It takes effort on the part of all of us to genuinely weave people into the fabric of our family. We all need to be proactive in opening up our hearts, our homes and our friendship groups in order to become a true family to our growing church body. Please pray about a few people that you could get to know better, and invite them to something fun but simple, like burgers at your home or a pizza picnic at the park. Consider making this a new priority – for the next 4 weeks and beyond!

Willing to reach out, but not quite sure who to reach? Why not simply ask God for an opportunity at church on Sunday to invite someone – or if you like to plan ahead, look through your church photo directory and ask God to direct you to someone to invite – and don’t feel like you always need to reach out to someone that is the same age or lifestage as you! If we all reach out to a few people, think what a difference that will make in all of our lives!
