Passage: Colossians 3:1-4

Preacher: Steve Lombardo

Series:Special Message

Detail:

Basic Outline of Colossians
I.    The preeminence of Christ in the life of the Colossians (1:1-14)
II.   The preeminence of Christ in His nature and work (1:15-23)
III.  The preeminence of Christ over false religion (2:8-23)
IV.  The preeminence of Christ in Christian living (3:1-4:6)

Christians' citizenship is not in this world (Philippians 3:20).
Christians are different from the world (1 Peter 2:11).
Christians are hated by the world (John 15:18, 19).

More specifically, how are we different?

1.  The Christian has a new capability (3:1).
       ●  The new capability is being able to see and seek
           heavenly things.
       ●  If you have been raised with Christ, you have new eyes.
       ●  If you have been raised with Christ, you have new
           affections.
*Have you been raised with Christ?

2.  The Christian has a new mentality (3:2).
       ●  The way we think has a direct correlation to our
           sanctification.
       ●  Sin makes promises that only God can fulfill.

3.  The Christian has a new reality (3:3).
       ●  This reality concerns how we respond to our own
            desires (Mark 8:34).
       ●  To deny yourself means you daily pray the prayer Jesus
prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane (Luke 22:42).

4.  The Christian has a new eschatology (3:4).
*Eschatology--the part of theology concerned with death,
judgment, and the final destiny of the soul and of mankind
       ●  The promise of heaven
       ●  The promise of the glory of God
