Monday was a holiday here in Poland, Wet Monday is what it's called. It's a pagan tradition of squirting water on people, symbolic of cleansing the soul. We saw a few kids out with their squirt guns, but otherwise we stayed dry.

Because of the holiday, there were no English classes today so we were able to take the time explore the new building in Legnica. There's actually two building sites so I'll try to explain what they are all about.

Here in Lubin, the town where Bruce and Linda live, there is a building site which was sold for pennies on the dollar to the tiny congregation of Lubin Baptist Church. It's a ten minute walk from the Thomas' house and can be seen from the current building which the church rents. The new building site has the footers and foundation laid but that's about it. It will cost the church around $800,000 to complete this new building. A huge sum for a small group of people. But the new building will be larger and have greater potential for reaching the community through the bridge of English language education. Already there are 160 students, some of whom meet in the Thomas' home for class, or the teachers go to the students' home.

The second building is in Legnica, a town about 45 minutes from Lubin. This building was given free to the Baptist Church in return for the one that was taken by the Nazis during World War II. Lubin Baptist Church, together with two other Baptist churches, acquired the building in June of last year. Currently there are renters in some parts of the building and the income pays the utilities. But the building is quite old and in need of repairs and updating. So far two rooms are completed and already in use as English classrooms. The potential with this building and location is huge. But the need for finances to complete the renovations, and men to do the work, must be met.

Once these buildings are ready, all that needs to happen is advertising and the students will come. BUT, there is a huge need for teachers.

Of course, the overall purpose is to use English classes as a bridge to develop relationships and engage in spiritual conversation and plant the seeds of God's truth. And this is happening on a regular basis. We will share more about that next.
