Living Life Underneath God's Will (Part 11)

Passage: 1 Peter 2:13-17

I.  Place oneself under God-ordained human institutions (vv. 13-14)
     The Duty of Man and Rule of God:
     A.  Yielding to earthly authorities proves a life changed by the Gospel.
          The Evidence that it gives:
          1.  It serves as a good witness to the world (v. 12)
          2.  It shows God's will being observed in the Christian life (v. 13)
     B.  God rules overall and every institution
          God, our Divine Ruler:
          1.  Every (all)
          2.  King (national)
          3.  Governor (local)
          4.  Church (fellowship/spiritual) (1 Peter 5:1-3, 6)

 II. Promotes freedom according to the will and fear of God (vv.15-17)
     The Will of God, Our Hope of Freedom, and the Reverence for God:
     A.  Living under God's will is a call to every Christian (v. 15)
          What does this accomplish for the Christian?
          1.  Silences our critic's attack
          2.  Shows our character as good
     B.  Living free is true freedom in Christ (v. 16)
          True Freedom:
          1.  Protects one's life from evil
          2.  Properly treats all people equally
          3.  Pursues love without compromise
          4.  Places God above all rulers
     C.  Living in reverence of God is a worshipful act of Freedom (v. 17)
          True Worship:
         
1.  It communicates who we are in Christ (1:23)
          2.  It confirms what we have become bacause of Christ (2:5)
          3.  It calls us to endure this present life (5:10)
