In God We Trust (Promo)

When God created the first people, he made them stewards of the earth — every plant, every animal — all of it. We carry that same responsibility. We are called to care for what God has entrusted to us, from our families and time to our belongings and finances.

Practicing good stewardship allows them to flourish under our care, helping us fulfill the unique purposes God has for each of us. Unfortunately, we live in a “throwaway” world. The result is a national epidemic of stress, broken homes, and a culture enslaved by debt.

But God desires for us to live in freedom by learning how to wisely manage our resources and steward as He intended. During our series “In God We Trust”, we’ll examine God’s Word and take basic steps on the path to freedom.

This is a big deal.  So much so that in a few weeks we’re doing something for the first time ever….  We’re addressing this topic with EVERYONE in the church — not just adults, but teens and children too.

Sermon Series

Begins Sunday, January 28

Trusting God with one's life is the most difficult but essential calling for believers. Living with an open hand and heart for God allows selfishness to die and sacrifice to abound. In God We Trust will explore why we can trust God and what areas we are called to give to Him.

Adult Small Groups

Begin the week of January 21

Our adults will be going through Financial Peace University in our small groups. We’ve done FPU on a smaller scale for the past 8 years and we have seen this life-changing course restore lives, repair marriages, and get people on track financially, all through providing the corrective steps — to get out of debt, to wisely manage our money and to place God rather than our stuff at the center of our pursuits.

Some of our retirement age groups will be going through Legacy Journey which teaches how to invest wisely, plan your estate, secure your family’s future, and understand biblical generosity.  It’s for those who are at or nearing retirement age and have implemented the basic principles of Financial Peace University.

Children

Money and generosity habits are established when we're young. Understanding what the Bible says about these issues is crucial for our kids, so in our Sunday morning children’s classes, our kids will learn: how to handle money God's ways; that everything belongs to God; the value of hard work and why serving others is so important; how to save and spend wisely and how to be content with what they have.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is “In God We Trust”?

At Village, we believe we’re meant to wisely care for all that God has entrusted to us. That includes everything we have: our families, time, belongings, and our finances. In doing so, our resources flourish under our care and become useful tools that can help us fulfill the unique and individual purposes God has for each of us. This is called good stewardship.

How does this series relate to our mission as a church?

Village exists to discover disciples of Jesus Christ, to develop them in their faith and then deploy them into fruitful ministry.  We believe that wisely stewarding the resources God has entrusted to us is a key part of what it means to follow him. When we manage our resources well, they become useful tools meant for helping us fulfill the individual purposes God has planned for each of us, thereby allowing us the opportunity to live out our purpose most effectively.

Who should participate?

Everyone! We all need a plan for our money. Financial Peace UniversityLegacy Journey and Generation Change teach God's ways of handling money. Through video teaching, group discussions and interactive small group activities, you will be given biblical, practical steps to get from where you are to where God is calling you financially!

Is there a cost to participate in Financial Peace University?

The normal cost of a Financial Peace University Membership Kit is $129 per household. Because we want everyone to participate, we have worked the out-of-pocket costs of FPU into our regular small group costs and will be covering the difference as a church. We believe that the investment will be worthwhile.

What do we hope the outcome will be?

Not all of us are buried in mounds of debt, but many of us can relate to not having much left at the end of the paycheck, and all of us can learn to be better stewards. We hope by the end of “In God We Trust” we will have learned how to better manage the resources God has given us, adopted a biblical mentality toward overall stewardship and developed a strategic plan for individual financial freedom.
