How the Church Treats People

Passage: 2 John 1:1-13

Preacher: Steve Lombardo

Series:One Hit Wonders

Summary:

In this message, we explore the delicate balance between truth and love in our Christian walk. The book of 2 John serves as our guide, reminding us that as God's people, we must know the truth, live out the truth, and love others. We're called to reject falsehood, embrace God's Word for our growth, and recognize Jesus as the ultimate truth. However, merely knowing the truth isn't enough – we must live it out in our daily lives. This can bring both blessings and hardships, but it's essential for our spiritual growth. As we strive to love others, including those different from us, we're reminded that we were once lost too, and that our real battle is not against people, but against spiritual forces of darkness. This perspective can help us approach others with compassion and understanding, even as we stand firm in our faith.

Detail:

1.  God's people know the truth (1–3).
2.  God's people live out the truth (4).
3.  God's people love (5–13).
       •  Love people.
       •  Love the truth.

The balancing act
1.  If we only love people it can lead to license.
2.  If we speak the truth without love it can lead to lost people.
