Jesus: My One Defense/My Righteousness

Passage: Hebrews 7:1-10

Preacher: Bill Warner

Series:Jesus: Greatest of All Time

Detail:

The author of Hebrews intentionally selects from God's story,
to help us make sense of God's story, for the sake of God's story.

  1.  Verses 1-2: Jesus and Melchizedek share the same position
       (better foundation).

  2.  Verse 3: Jesus and Melchizedek share the same permanence
       (better function).

  3.  Verses 4-10: Jesus and Melchizedek share the same power
       (better family).

If we misunderstand Jesus' priesthood and His pristly role, we may...

  1.  Develop a deficient understanding of Jesus as one who
sympathizes with us in our weakness.

  2.  Become trapped in legalism, a vicious cycle of pride and
depression, both based upon our performance.

  3.  Display a general lack of love, grace, and mercy toward
       ourselves/others.

  4.  See God as cold, distant, stern, and harsh.

  5.  See Jesus as a God we are more prone to run from than run
to in our time of need.
