Why All the Blood?

Passage: Hebrews 9:15-28

Preacher: David Wood

Series:Jesus: Greatest of All Time

Detail:

Question: Why would a perfect God use something as gory as
blood to accomplish salvation?

1.  The Old Covenant required so much animal blood because people
     sin so much (15-22).
       •  Sin is a problem because it alienates people from God.
       •  Sin can only be forgiven after blood is shed.
       •  Sin couldn't be resolved with the Old Covenant.

2.  The New Covenant required the blood of Jesus to purchase our
     salvation (23-26).
       •  Jesus' blood cleanses our consciences.
       •  Jesus' blood launched the New Covenant.
       •  Jesus' blood purified the heavenly sanctuary.
       •  Jesus' blood accomplishes more than animal blood.
       •  Jesus' blood removes sin.

Answer: The blood of Jesus is the costliest and only effective
payment for our forgiveness!

3.  Jesus shed His blood so we can anticipate salvation instead of
judgment at His second coming (27-28)!
