Cultivating Christ-Centered Community

Passage: Acts 2:42-47

Preacher: Steve Lombardo

Series:Special Message

Detail:

1.  To cultivate Christ-centered community, we must first understand the
     culture in which we live.
     Anti-Christian worldviews
       •  Materialism: "Possessions are God."
       •  Hedonism: "Pleasure is God."
       •  Individualism: "I am God."
       •  Collectivism/Socialism: "Government is God."

2.  To cultivate Christ-centered community, we must observe the
characteristics of Biblical community (Acts 2 & 4).
       •  Mystical unity
       •  Missional unity
       •  Material unity

How did the early church arrive to this place of unity?
       •  They were devoted to the apostles' teaching.
       •  They were devoted to fellowship.
       •  They were devoted to the breaking of bread.
       •  They were devoted to prayer.

3.  To maintain Christ-centered community, we must deal with
relational difficulties in a Biblical way.

4.  Conclusion: Choices that must be made
       •  Isolation or involvement
       •  Selfishness or service
       •  Possessions or people
       •  Legalism or love
