I Need a Hero (Part 10)

Passage: Mark 5:21-6:6

Preacher: Tim Badal

Series:Man at Work

Summary:

Mark is fascinated with two qualities of Jesus that he gives to us in the first words of this gospel: "The beginning of the gospel about Jesus Christ, the Son of God" (Mark 1:1). Jesus of Nazareth, a carpenter, the human Jesus—but also the Son of God, the divine one. Mark seems to be fascinated by that combination: the Ruler who manifests His ability to serve, and the Servant who knows how to rule.

Detail:

Our need for a hero is seen in:

1.  The desperate faith of a respected man.

      This desperation:

           •  involved an impending death
           •  allowed for a humble demeanor
           •  resulted in a persistent desire

2.  The determined faith of a rejected woman.

      This was seen in her:

           •  condition
           •  cure
           •  confession

3.  The dead faith of a spiritually unresponsive people.

      While unresponsive in faith they:

           •  loved the show
           •  laughed with scorn
           •  loathed the Savior
