Valentine's Day Christianity vs. Genuine Christianity

Passage: 1 John 2:3-6

Preacher: Tim Badal

Series:Living in the Light

Summary:

What It Means to Live as Jesus Did Valentine’s Day Christianity: Involves a person who announces to others his relationship with Jesus Christ in word alone, but who does nothing to prove that love and affection. A careful examination shows a duty–based, hypocritical approach to his so-called relationship with God. This type of Christianity is not genuine, but false, and dupes its adherents into believing a lie. Genuine Christianity: Involves a person who announces to others his relationship with Jesus Christ in both word and deed; the proof of this relationship is an ongoing delight to live just as Jesus did. This type of life is far from perfect but is made complete by living for Christ every day. This type of Christianity is genuine and allows the believer to live in fellowship with God and the truth of Scriptures. Genuine everyday Christianity involves keeping His commands. Keeping His commands: 1. Declares to others our life in the light. This declaration involves: The reality of our fellowship. The validity of our fellowship. 2. Develops a certain kind of love. This love is seen in the: Intimacy that is enjoyed. Maturity that is experienced. 3. Demands a particular way of life. This way of life reflects: the profession of our faith. the person of our faith.
