Kishanje Highlands - Welcomed by Guradians

Posted by Kate Duff on

In the afternoon we arrived in the village of Kishanje, after weaving through beautiful mountains surrounding Lake Bunyoni.

When we got out of the van, we found that guardians of the Juna Amagara Sponsored children (with sponsors from VBC and elsewhere) had gathered to welcome us.  The chairperson of the group spoke and presented Lisa and I with gifts of appreciation.  The large group of parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and neighbors to the children in the program sang and danced the traditional Kikiga [cha-chee-ga] dance for us to show their excitement and gratitude for our visit.  Many of the guardians remembered Pastor Keith and Max from last June when I was introduced as Keith's wife and Max's mother.  Big smiles came across several faces.  They were extremely grateful for the opportunities sponsorship provides for their children.  Education is highly valued in Uganda, but many children do not have the privilege to attend, and even fewer have the chance to go to a good, private school like Juna Amagara's schools.
