Kishanje Kids

Posted by Kate Duff on

This afternoon we met children sponsored by the Flemings (Augustine was thrilled with that spiky green ball), the Etchisons (Dismas loved the personalized shirt - sorry about the sun spot in the photo), the Chois (origami - how fun! Joan's mom was fascinated), the Botts (Looking at the Botts photo, Jason and all those gathered around were amazed by the "African size" family), and the Dallals (Aureria was SOOO shy, nervous, and excited, she was shaking and about to cry! She enjoyed the rainbow picture that Rose colored for her!). What a blessing to be able to deliver these letters and packages and meet these sweet kids!!! Lisa and I were loving every minute!

We came to Kishanje carrying packages and letters for several children from their VBC sponsors.  However, Thursday was the day the primary school was breaking off for a short holiday (or vacation), but we were able to catch a few of them before they began their long walks home.  The students were very shy, but full of excitement to receive love from their sponsors in the form of these small gifts.  Most of them were working hard to keep their smiles from showing, and some were even shaking out of a combination of excitement and nervousness.  It is certainly a blessing to be able to be the hands, feet, and voice for the sponsors back home as I meet their children and some family members.

To finish my first night in the village, our hosts wanted to make sure I tasted Ugandan chips with Top-Up (ketchup), because they know it is Max's favorite food when he is here.  In Kishanje, everything is cooked over an open fire. (Electricity has not yet made it all the way to Kishanje - or running water - but everything still works out!)
